• GALATIANS GOSPEL: The gospel is the announcement that Jesus has sufficiently fulfilled all God’s demands through His perfect life and sacrificial death under God’s just wrath for our sin, so that through faith in Him, we might be united to Him by His Spirit, declared righteous, freed from condemnation, and accepted by His Father to inherit the promise of His eternal life in His kingdom.

• SUMMARY: The good news is that Jesus has done everything so that, by faith in Him alone, we might be accepted by God.

• What specific encouragements, convictions, or applications can you take away from this passage and sermon?

• Why does adding requirements to Jesus’ work distort the gospel? In what ways have you encountered ‘false gospels’ that suggest Jesus’ work is insufficient?

• Why does attempting to add to Jesus’ work drive us toward insecurity? How have you personally experienced the anxiety of trying to add to what Jesus has already accomplished?

• What spiritual practices can you cultivate to help you remain rooted in the gospel and avoid drifting from it?

• In what ways do you find yourself seeking the approval of others rather than the approval of God? How does the gospel liberate you from this need for the validation of others? How can you live and serve more fully from your security in Christ?

Take some time to pray through these verses. Commit to memorizing at least one this week. 

Isaiah 53:5

    But he was pierced for our transgressions;

        he was crushed for our iniquities;

    upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,

        and with his wounds we are healed.

Psalm 32:1 

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,

        whose sin is covered.

Romans 5:8

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:21

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

1 Timothy 1:15 

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
